Behind the Operation

Patagonia Fly Fishing Guides: Local Roots in Coyhaique

Chile Fly Fishing is a small operation based in Coyhaique. Matías and Sebastián built it around one idea: a guest should leave feeling they spent the week with fishing friends, not passed through an institution.

Local knowledge, shared without the performance

The team is from Coyhaique, and our head guide brings more than 14 years of local guiding experience. The value of that time is practical: knowing when yesterday's plan no longer fits today's wind, flow or hatch.

We guide up to two anglers together and choose the day with you. Some days call for a careful dry-fly presentation; others call for a streamer, a different piece of water or an honest conversation about difficult conditions. Read how those choices change through the Coyhaique fishing season.

Matías and Sebastián, professional Patagonia fly fishing guides in Coyhaique

Matías and Sebastián

Matías, the founder, and Sebastián, the co-founder, are anglers born and raised in Coyhaique. They run the operation, fish with the team and stay close to every guest throughout the week. Matías has represented Douglas Fly Fishing in Chile since 2019; that relationship is independently documented on Douglas Outdoors.

Read the day first

The route is chosen from current water, wind, access and what the anglers want to learn — not from a fixed weekly circuit.

Fish as friends

Questions, hard conditions and changes of plan are discussed plainly. The guide is beside you, not performing a script.

Keep private access private

We explain water types and tactics without publishing private access points. Your itinerary confirms the actual route and travel time.

Coyhaique roots

Local guides who know how Aysén water changes after wind, rain and snowmelt.

One group at a time

Up to two anglers per guide, so the plan and attention stay with the people in front of us.

Partner accommodation

The all-inclusive week uses local partner accommodation; Chile Fly Fishing guides and hosts the trip but does not claim to operate its own lodge.

Ecosystem Stewardship

We strictly practice and enforce catch-and-release protocols to protect the wild brown trout populations of Aysén.

Matias & Sebastian connected with Douglas Outdoors when they started Chile Fly Fishing back in 2019/2020. They are now great friends who just happen to run a professional fishing operation in beautiful Patagonia. Everything is taken care of and first class once you arrive in Chile. Matias and Sebastian are great hosts and would love to show you some of their favorite spots.
